Varese is one of the most beautiful provinces in Italy. Seen from above it looks like a green handkerchief with light blue spots: the matching colours of the LAKES and the woods, an unusual sight, particularly in spring, when the light green of the first buds contrasts with the white of the snow. Or better still in autumn, when leaves change their shade to warm tones and the lakes soften their vibrant colours.
It’s a “land of water” thanks to its many lakes and RIVERS. Its perfect geographic position at the outlet of alpine VALLEYS and between the two important routes of Sempione and Gottard, has undoubtedly influenced the social evolution of the people who have lived here, generation after generation.
