Palace Grand Hotel, Varese

Surrounded by vegetation on the Campigli Hill, not far from the town centre, this well-organised hotel complex was built in the first decade of the 1900's, and consisted of the Kursaal and the Palace Grand Hotel. The Kursaal was built between 1908 and 1910, from a design by the Milanese architect, Gaetano Moretti. In 1945, it was destroyed in a bombing. In 1912, building began of the Palace Grand Hotel, which was designed by Giuseppe Sommaruga. The complex, which still functions as a hotel, looks like an imposing and compact parallelepiped interrupted by a tower that emerges from the blocked volume of the crowning.
