The Nursery and the Elephant

The building, which was designed by the architect Ulisse Stacchini, was commissioned by the Magnani family and built in 1912. The painted, linear and geometrical decorations emphasise the openings on the external facades, which differ from the nearby Villa Magnani, where the architect chose to use different materials and include relief decorations. A little further on, there is the cemetery, with the funeral chapel of the Magnani family, which was built in 1919 by the famous sculptor Enrico Butti from Viggiù. The work, which cannot really be considered an example of the Liberty style, is shaped like a stone pagoda resting on a life-sized bronze elephant, in memory of the client's cultural and religious background.
