Rivers and waterfalls

In ancient times, many of the rivers in the Province were transport routes used by the subalpine populations who settled here and developed in the lakes district. The most important rivers are the Tresa and the Ticino, which also supply the largest lakes: Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano.
