Fagnano Olona - The Visconti Castle
The earliest records of this castle date back to the 10th - 12th centuries, but the buildings around the courtyard and the two towers are from the 13th century. In the 16th century, Gaspare Visconti, heir to Vitaliano Visconti Borromeo, to whom Emperor Charles V gave the title Count of Fagnano, in 1551, added the section that faces the town, with a second courtyard that is accessible through a Baroque style portal. The tower on the right is well preserved: here we can find the ornamental pattern, a saw-toothed strip, that was typical of the Visconti-Sforza castles built on the plains.
