Somma Lombardo - The Castle Visconti di San Vito

This castle was built in the 13th century and was lived in by the Visconti family from 1251. During the 17th century, part of the west facade was modified, along with the interiors, which were renovated in the Baroque style, with richly frescoed and furnished rooms featuring 17th century frescoes attributed to the Procaccini school. A number of collections can be seen in the rooms: in the "Seasons Room", there is a large, albeit strange, collection of shaving plates; there is a beautiful collection of 360 stuffed birds; a large collection of Spanish weapons and armours from the 16th century, and an interesting collection of items of the Golasecca civilisation.
