The Uccellande path (Hunting areas that have become pleasant locations in which to watch and listen to birds)

A fascinating and relaxing walk in the park enables visitors to experience evocative locations, which were hunting areas far back in the past. With the help of CDs and a map, the sounds of nature can be studied in the habitats in which they can normally be heard.

The path runs through the south-eastern part of the Parco Pineta (Pinewood Park), and it takes up a considerable portion of the forests and agricultural land in the municipal districts of Veniano, Lurago Marinone and Limido Comasco. Almost 9 km in length, the path provides a relaxing walk, and the highly diversified environment offers opportunities to admire the beauty of the floral architecture and to observe the fauna. "Uccellande" are complex tree structures that can be seen along the path. They are large, rectangular groups of trees, used in past centuries for trapping migratory birds, an activity that was performed for food, trade and recreation. Over the last few years, the Park management has been endeavouring to restore the relics of these ancient traditions, which now represent distinctive hallmarks along the path. The latter's route leads to an evocative countryside area to the west of urban settlements, running through wide open areas where a number of species of birds of prey living in the Park can be seen. The park's facilities include a series of educational and illustrative panels accompanied by audio material developed in cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Bio-acoustic and Environmental Research Centre at the University of Pavia. The CD that has been produced comprises over 60 tracks, making it possible to listen to the sounds of birds and amphibians typical of the Park, including some nocturnal scenes with the sounds of frogs and grasshoppers.

The map and CD are available from the Parco Pineta centre, or from the Scientific Educational Centre, and they cost €2 and €5 respectively.
