Rile Tenore Olona Park

A nature park covering over a thousand hectares in an area along the river Olona.

The Rile Tenore Olona (RTO) park is a nature area characterized by the three rivers giving it its name. Its area of over a thousand hectares is contained in the municipalities of Castiglione Olona, Gazzada Schianno, Lozza, Morazzone, Caronno Varesino, Gornate Olona, Lonate Ceppino, Castelseprio and Carnago.

This area is distinctive for large terraces of fluvial-glacial origin, known as "moraine terraces", and it also offers a wealth of significant features from historical and cultural points of view.

The morphology of these areas has given rise to many streams, often very short in length, with water from springs or rainfall. In this part there are large areas of woodland, in which the principal species include scots pine and chestnut, and in addition there are many large agricultural fields.

The area forms the ideal habitat for the hare because of the cultivated fields. In woodland areas, the most environmentally valuable mammalian species include the squirrel, the badger and the fox.
