The city of chestnuts

Chestnut groves have long been an important part of everyday life in a quiet village in the shadow of the Campo dei Fiori massif.

Up until a few decades ago, chestnut cultivation was a pivotal part of the economy in rural subalpine areas, and particularly in this part of the park, around the town of Brinzio.

On the slopes of the Campo dei Fiori range, a series of operations have been performed by means of an Italian-Swiss inter-regional project named "The city of chestnuts". This has enabled the survival of a culture based on chestnuts, preserving many features of past times, when work in these areas was predominantly linked to chestnut trees and their products.

Visitors to the park can observe a wonderful chestnut wood and explore the scientific aspects of the forest. In addition, the park has a series of museum facilities presenting the world of chestnuts, with locations that illustrate the trades of years gone by, such as the people who threshed dried chestnuts.
