The mid-Olona park in the Varese area

An interesting green area of supra-municipal interest, lying on the river Olona. It provides leisure activities and easy walks.

The mid-Olona Park is an area of supra-municipal interest in a number of municipal districts in the valley, and more specifically Fagnano Olona, Gorla Maggiore, Gorla Minore, Marnate, Olgiate Olona and Solbiate Olona.

This small nature area, created by the desire, on the part of local administration, to protect the environmental and nature heritage of these areas, runs across part of the territory from the plains north of Milan to the moraine hills at the foot of the subalpine mountains of Varese.

The six hundred hectare park presents the landscape typical of Lombard heathland, amongst cultivated fields, meadows, poplar grows and hedges with trees. In addition there are the remains of disused factories and water-mills, which in times gone by used the power provided by the river Olona. The river has therefore had a profound effect on the morphology and urban settlements of these areas.
