Val Bossa
This valley was originally named Val Bodia in 1538, following senator Egidio Bossi's purchase of the like-named feud which included the towns Gazzada, Buguggiate, Azzate, Brunello, Daverio, Crosio della Valle, Galliate Lombardo and Bodio.
The origins and transformation of the name are interesting in themselves. According to some scholars, the name Val Bodia is derived from Bovio, or ox, an animal included in the emblem displayed on the Bossi family's Castle. The family were the lords of this lakeside area.
