Valle Olona

Valle Olona is located in the eastern part of the province of Varese. On the eastern side of the river Olona, the historic road linking Milan and Varese is accompanied by the virtually parallel course of the Varese-Saronno-Milan railway. West of the river, the motorway link between Milan and Varese runs close to the ancient Sempione (Simplon) road, and in the section between Gallarate Varese, along the Arno valley, there is another railway, the Milan-Busto Arsizio-Gallarate-Varese line. Valle Olona, also known as "il Seprio", has many historical and monumental attractions, situated in a relatively well-preserved environmental context. The habitat comprises primarily woodland, along with agricultural land which, amongst the dense network of communications and urban settlements, forms a particularly evocative feature.
