Caldé castle
Even though only ruins remain today, the Castle provides truly unique possibilities of walking on easy paths, bringing visitors to unparalleled panoramic viewpoints.
Unfortunately, only ruins remain of Caldé castle, whose name comes from the like-named village in the municipality of Castelveccana. However the natural environment and the landscape values of the area are considerable. First and foremost, it is well worth reaching the Castle for the fine view offered from the peak on which it was built.
An easy path leads up to the Castle in just a few minutes, and during the walk there are views over the surrounding mountains and the corresponding part of the lake. Along the mule track, a series of crosses and a lighthouse-tower commemorate the partisan fighters who gave their lives in all wars.
A walk through the woods leads up to the 13th-century church of Santa Veronica, built directly over the lower section of the Castle, whose structures continue down towards the lake. The church was part of the original system of fortifications surrounding the village. The view from the portico in front of the church is truly superb, over the lake and the villages of Caldé and Castello.
